About the IIT-JEE

Every year the IITs conduct a Joint Entrance Examination (JEE, to select candidate for the four year B.Tech., five year integrated M.Tech., five year Dual Degree M.Tech. programmes (where in both B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees are awarded at the end of the programme) and M.Sc. courses offered at their campuses located in Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharaghpur, Mumbai & Roorkee. The IT-BHU Varanasi and ISM Dhanbad also select students on the basis of JEE.

By an Act of the Government of India in 2008, admissions would be given for four year B. Tech. courses in eight new IITs. They are located at Bhubaneswar, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Patna, Punjab, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Indore.

Schedule of JEE-2012

The examination will be held on Sunday, April 8, 2012 as per the schedule given below:

Paper-I: 9:00 AM-12:00 Noon (IST)

Paper-II: 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM (IST)

The schedule will remain unaltered even if the above date is declared a public holiday.

Type of Examination

There will be two question papers, each of three hours duration. Both the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

Questions in these papers will be of objective type. The answers for each of the questions are to be recorded on a separate specially designed machine-gradable sheet of paper (ORS-Optical Response Sheet). While answering each of the questions the candidate is expected to darken the bubble against correct answer(s) using hard black (HB) pencils only. In some sections, incorrect answers may be awarded negative marks.
